Arrival
Arrival at Keflavík Airport.
Pick up your rental car at the airport. Depending on your arrival time, you can make a walk through downtown Reykjavík. Overnight stay in Reykjavík.
Reykjavik - Drive to Luxury Lodge
In the morning, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Reykjavík at your leisure. The drive from the city to the Mountain Boutique Alpine Chalet takes about 45 minutes. Along the way, you can visit the Thórufoss and Helgufoss waterfalls.
Optionally, you can take a short hike from the chalet to a private black sand beach. Afterwards, it’s a great idea to heat up the sauna and enjoy a cozy evening by the wood-burning stove — and if you’re lucky you will see the Northern Lights while you are sitting in the Hot Pot!
Golden Circle
Today, you’ll experience the highlights of the “Golden Circle.” The historic Þingvellir Parliament is located right at the impressive rift valley between the American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Equally spectacular are the famous Geysir and the “Golden” Waterfall Gullfoss. A visit to Laugarvatn Fontana offers a relaxing bathing break to round off the day.
Soutcoast of Iceland
On this day, you’ll discover the spectacular waterfalls Seljalandsfoss, Glufrafoss, and Skógafoss, each captivating with their impressive power and beauty. At Seljalandsfoss, you’ll have the unique opportunity to walk behind the cascading water — an experience that offers breathtaking views and fascinating photo opportunities.
Next, your route takes you to the distinctive Dyrhólaey rock arch, a coastal formation where you can often spot puffins and other seabirds. The day concludes at the famous black sand beach of Vík, with its dark basalt cliffs and mysterious atmosphere leaving an unforgettable impression. This day promises immersive encounters with nature and extraordinary memories.
Snæfellsnes Peninsula
Today’s journey takes you to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, renowned for its stunning landscapes and diverse activities. In the southern part of the peninsula, you’ll find numerous hiking opportunities along the coast and through expansive lava fields. Horse enthusiasts can enjoy a ride on Icelandic horses — an experience suitable even for beginners. For those seeking adventure, a volcano climb is also an option. Driving through Snæfellsnes National Park rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of the majestic Snæfellsjökull Glacier.
A worthwhile stop is Bjarnahöfn Shark Museum, which produces traditional fermented shark — a true Icelandic delicacy — and offers fascinating insights into its preparation.
The viewpoint at Lóndrangar impresses with its dramatic cliffs, where the ocean appears like a natural amphitheater. Additionally, inviting sandy beaches near the iconic black church of Búðir are perfect for a break; this church, often chosen for weddings (we got married here too), is a local treasure.
To conclude the day, a visit to the charming fishing village of Stykkishólmur is highly recommended. Known for its picturesque houses and authentic ambiance, it’s a delightful way to end your exploration of Snæfellsnes.
Relaxing at the Lodge - short day trip
Today, you have a choice: Either relax at the chalet, enjoy the idyllic surroundings, and simply unwind, or take a short day trip to the picturesque Hvalfjörður. This impressive region not only offers stunning landscapes but also a special attraction: the hot springs at Hvammsvík, where you can relax in the warm thermal waters surrounded by nature (www.hvammsvik.com). The facility is located right by the fjord and features various pools that blend harmoniously into the environment, offering a spectacular view of the water and mountains.
The drive to Hvalfjörður itself takes you through beautiful, untouched nature, perfect for little stops and photo breaks. For those wanting to explore more, additional viewpoints and hidden waterfalls can be discovered along the way. This day offers the perfect combination of relaxation and nature experiences. In the evening, with a bit of luck, the Northern Lights may await you once again.
Drive towards Airport - Relaxing at Blue Lagoon
Today, you’ll head back towards Reykjavík. If you feel like it, you can visit the famous Blue Lagoon for some wellness — a truly special experience. The milky-blue thermal water, surrounded by black lava landscapes, creates a mystical atmosphere that is especially captivating in the evening. The warm water invites relaxation and is beneficial for both body and mind.
Take a break and unwind in the mineral-rich water, watching the steam rise as the lava landscape appears even more surreal in the twilight. A perfect way to end your day! Overnight stay near the airport.
Rental Car Return
Today, you will return the rental car at Keflavík Airport and head back home.
